Together, these three pillars form the foundation of our approach and inform all of the work that we do, from community outreach and education to providing support and resources for survivors.
Prevention
Awaken offers preventative education targeting the most vulnerable population: disadvantaged youth. We work with youth groups to talk to local students about the realities of human trafficking and how to prevent it from happening to them or their loved ones.
Restoration
We offer customized services for women and children affected by sex trafficking, with a focus on tailored programs for adults and youth. Working with community organizations, our goal is to help victims rebuild their lives and access the support they need in areas where services are limited.
City Transformation
We advocate for social change and educate the community about commercial sexual exploitation and sex trafficking through workshops, outreach, and events. By engaging grassroots supporters and policymakers, Awaken strives to combat commercial sexual exploitation.
Every woman entering Awaken has a unique story and experience. Some are still struggling and healing–but all of our survivors are recognized for their strength and are celebrated for their journey to becoming their authentic selves.
Awaken is a faith-based non-profit organization whose mission is to increase awareness and education surrounding the issue of commercial sexual exploitation and to provide housing and restoration for its victims.
Awaken acts to transform our community with the ultimate goal of eradicating commercial sexual exploitation. We aim for victims of commercial sexual exploitation to be restored to their fullest potential. We aspire to be an inspirational model for other communities.
Our three pillars, prevention, restoration, and city transformation form the foundation of our approach.
Our team is passionate and committed to ending human trafficking and supporting its survivors. With a diverse set of skills and experiences, we work together to raise awareness, advocate for change, and provide direct services to those in need.
We provide support to individuals who have been impacted by commercial sexual exploitation through our Drop-in Center, housing, and comprehensive case management services. Our programs include education, therapy, mentorship, employment and housing assistance, all with a focus on fostering healing, empowerment, and the rebuilding of identity.
Awaken Adult Services
Our adult services offer assistance to individuals through various avenues such as our Drop-in Center, housing solutions, and comprehensive case management services. Our array of programs include educational initiatives, therapeutic interventions, mentorship opportunities, employment support, and housing aid, all aimed at promoting healing, empowerment, and the restoration of personal identity.
Awaken Youth Services
Awaken first began serving minor victims of sex trafficking in the Reno area in 2017. Awaken offers therapy, case management, and mentorship to our participants. Additionally we have the Awaken Education Center, an after-school program, therapeutic groups, family support services, supplemental support for foster youth, and social development activities. Let's not forget all the summer fun we do with the participants such as weekly outings to places like Lake Tahoe, summer camps, and rock climbing!
Awaken Outreach
Awaken’s survivor advocates regularly conduct outreach to make meaningful connections. While visiting places like the jail and local resource centers they let woman know that when they are ready to make a change, Awaken is there for them. Bridges were further built through online and street outreach. In 2022, Awaken reached 368 through jail outreach, 800 women online and 100 through street outreach efforts. As a result of our extensive outreach, a total of 1,268 women were informed about Awaken and the life changing services we provide!
